Motherhood in Ireland by Dr. Patricia Kennedy

Motherhood in Ireland: Creation and Context is a unique book consisting of 21 chapters on a wide range of topics, including mothers in Irish literature, motherhood and the Catholic Church, childbirth, reproductive rights, motherhood and the Irish language, mothers in Irish folklore, emigration, infanticide, the Magdalene laundries and many more. A feature of the book which makes it distinct is that it also contains 21 poems/song lyrics which reflect the themes.

Dr. Patricia Kennedy is a senior lecturer in Social Policy at University College Dublin. She has written extensively on motherhood and maternity policies in Ireland. Her books include Maternity in Ireland: A Woman-centered Perspective and Motherhood in Ireland. She has co-edited several books including Contemporary Irish Social Policy, Irish Social Policy in Context, Theorizing Irish Social Policy, and Ageing and Social Policy.

Motherhood in Ireland was published in 2004 by UCD Press. We are currently looking to place it in the American market.
